The fusion of wrestling and the Day of the Dead is a unique combination of two iconic Mexican traditions, celebrating both popular culture and the spiritual roots of the country.
Lucha libre, with its colorful masks, heroic characters (técnicos), and villains (rudos), has been a symbol of Mexican identity for decades. The wrestlers, wearing their masks, represent mythological figures, often connected to the imagery of gods and supernatural beings. Lucha libre is a theatrical representation of the battle between good and evil, a theme that also resonates in the celebrations of the Day of the Dead.
On the other hand, the Day of the Dead is an ancestral festival that honors loved ones who have passed away. Through altars, offerings, and colorful decorations, the living remember and celebrate the dead, with the belief that the souls return to visit their families on this day.
