Cancun
Roughly 48 years old, Cancun was once a small fishing village but is now Mexico's most well known tourist destination. It is no accident that it was chosen as a place to develop; the beaches are breathtakingly beautiful and some of the most impressive Mayan sites are very nearby. Cancun is now a stunning metropolis boasting beaches of white sand and turquoise waters and a unique party scene.
Coba
Coba is located around two lagoons. A series of elevated stone and plaster roads radiate from the central site to various smaller sites near and far. These are known by the Maya term sacbe (plural sacbeob). Some of these causeways go east, and the longest runs over 100 kilometres (62 mi) westwards to the site of Yaxuna. The site contains several large temple pyramids, the tallest, in what is known as the Nohoch Mul group of structures, being some 42 metres (138 ft) in height. Ixmoja is the tallest pyramid on the Yucatán peninsula.
Isla Contoy
Isla Contoy is a small Mexican island located in the state of Quintana Roo , about 30 km north of Isla Mujeres. The island is 8.75 km long and 200-700 m, 500 m wide on average , has an area of 230 ha. of land area.
Isla Mujeres
Isla Mujeres is located in the Caribbean Sea , near the Yucatan peninsula , southeast of Mexico . The island is part of one of the ten municipalities of the state of Quintana Roo , the municipality of Isla Mujeres (which includes part of the mainland ) and is located thirteen kilometers from the city of Cancun, the main tourist destination in the region.
Playa del Carmen
Located on the Caribbean coast in the Yucatan Peninsula, Playa del Carmen boasts stunning beaches with white sand and translucent turquoise water. It is more tranquil than Cancun but still packed with fantastic restaurants and bars and there are plenty of opportunities to explore the area nearby, visiting stunning archaeological sites and incredible nature reserves.
Riviera Maya
Riviera Maya is located between Cancún and Playa del Carmen, it is famous thanks to its beaches and jungle area. Riviera Maya is perfect for relaxing and having fun in the nearby points of interest like Xcaret, Xel-ha, Tulum and Cobá
Tulum
Tulum is a Mayan word for fence or wall. It was named this due to the wall around that site that is a unique feature to Tulum and not found at any other Mayan site. Tulum definitely wins the prize for the most spectacular setting. The back of the cool turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea is simply stunning. What can be more incredible than swimming in the sea below this impressive Mayan archaeological site?
